UKS House Challenge

I was asked to draw a sketch for this month’s house challenge on UK Scrappers and here it is …

You don’t have to be in a UKS team to have a go at the challenges but if you are it’s 30 bonus points if you upload to the gallery before 31st July. 

UKS Challenge June wk5

This week’s challenge was a very interesting one by the lovely Jen of Wear Crafts who gave us a formula to work with. Jen said …

“One of my new croppers was struggling with starting points for her layouts and then looking for ways to improve her work... which made me think hard about my scrapping process... so I realised, I adopt a kind of 'Good, Better, Best' approach.
I start off with 'Good' - basic shapes from paper arranged in a pleasing manner with co-ordinating colours, photo placed and title/journaling located.
Then, I do 'Better' - take quick photo of placement and remove all the bits to ink edges, add glitter, embossing or whatever to the basic shapes, refer to the photo and glue everything down.
Finally, I do 'Best' - add all the extra embellishments... clips, buttons, ribbons, icons, ink squirts ... whatever I want to add.”

So here are my efforts …

I started with my photo and the fabulous Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine which, coincidentally I bought from Wear Crafts.

 

 

 

 

 

I decided I didn’t like the blue background and that the big title was overwhelming the page. I added a few embellishments from the kit and matted the photo to give it some definition on the page.

 

 

 

And my final page with more embellishments, embroidered circles to reflect the blue hoops in the photo and some journalling.

CUASMS July sketch

We have started a new sketch group on UK Scrappers called Come Up and See My Sketchings. The group filled up amazingly quickly! It is specifically for scrappers who like to use a sketch as their starting point. I love a sketch – it saves me hours of shuffling bits round the page trying to take the plunge to glue something down! If I don’t use someone else’s sketch I’ll rough out one for myself before I start.

In the group we are taking turns to set a monthly challenge and I have drawn up the sketch for July …

Here we are, half way through the year! How did that happen? Well even though time is flying it’s not too late to join our monthly Christmas link up. My cards this month came from a Pinterest idea here. I think these are so cute. If you are inspired to have a go yourself, I’d recommend using stick on eyes glue and black card do not mix well for a messy crafter like me! You could make a cheaper version with punched white circles, drawing on the black bit of the eye. 

As this was something I 'saw, pinned and did' I will link it to Fiona's great monthly challenge See It, Pin It, Do It (SIPIDI do dah) :) here.

So what’s BtCR all about? I have been making 5 a month since January and will have at least 50 Christmas cards all ready for the festive season. Ha! I’m planning to Beat the Christmas Rush. Why not join in our monthly linky? You’ll be glad you did! I’ll publish a new link up each month on the 25th and feature my favourite card from the previous month’s entries …

Talking of which, I love this card linked up last month by Pat. You will see it feature in my own crafting in the not too distant future. Wouldn’t it be good for a photo card, too?

A weekly blog tour

Following Lesley’s fab post is a bit daunting but I’ll give it a go. So …

What am I working on?
My first love in crafting is working with paper, but lately I’ve dipped my toes well fingers into the world of fabric. Out there is the most wonderful selection of beautiful material, and I guess this is just an excuse to spend and stroke. LOL We are planning to have a stall at a Craft Fair near Christmas and I am busy making pop-up desk tidies. What do you think?

How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Well I’m not sure it does, really. I love to scrap and sew in bright, bold colours and also like to draw a sketch at the planning stage. I run a sketch challenge each month. Here’s a few of my sketches please fell free to use them if you’d like …



Why do I create what I do?

I’m not sure about my sewing, except maybe because I love pretty patterns, but I most definitely scrap to preserve the memories my family are making and the things that Michael and I do together. My four great-nieces and nephews are so deliciously photogenic, I can’t resist them as page subjects.

How does your creating process work?
I generally don’t plan much … just scrap or sew as the whim takes me. I spend a lot of time browsing Pinterest but rarely go back and make something I’ve pinned, except when I’m trying to make a card definitely not my forte to work in such a confined space. I run a Christmas card challenge and almost always pinch someone’s ideas on Pinterest!
